NRJE Mentoring Seminar 2015

On Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9 (immediately preceding the annual NRJE conference), the Network for Research in Jewish Education, with support from the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for the Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University, will hold a mentoring seminar and collaborative research workshop for emerging scholars (graduate students, recent PhD recipients, and junior faculty members). Participants will hear from veteran researchers in the field and get to know each other and senior colleagues in small group settings, underscoring NRJE’s commitment toward advancing the professional development and research acumen of emerging scholars.

Sessions will include presentations and discussions about:

• Productive Habits of Highly Respected Researchers

• Diverse Modes of Disseminating Research Findings in Jewish Education

• Individual Consultations with Peers and Mentors on Current Research and Methodologies

In addition, emerging and veteran scholars will have an opportunity to collaborate on a brainstorming exercise—a research think tank—on the subject of “Contemporary Youth in Informal Educational Settings.” The goal of this workshop-style activity is to generate new ways of thinking about and investigating hot-button issues in the contemporary Jewish education field.

All graduate students and junior faculty members who are members of NRJE are invited to apply. Priority will be given to graduate students who have completed their coursework and to junior faculty within four years of degree completion. NRJE/CASJE will provide participants up to $500 to help defray travel costs (limited to airfare, accommodations, and/or ground transportation).
